Get to Know Kyle Sangha
After growing up in the Lower Mainland, Kyle Sangha decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and leave home at an early age. At 19, he moved to Winnipeg to attend university, gain new experiences, and ultimately become a Chartered Professional Accountant. Now back in Vancouver, Kyle has joined MNP as a senior manager with the firm’s Public Companies team. He shared his journey with us as we got to know him and told us what he loves about helping clients.
Did you always want to be an accountant?
In high school I had many interests — health care, engineering, business, sports. I also had many different jobs during my late teens and throughout university. I decided to pursue general sciences at the University of Manitoba and not too long after I found a calling to business and joined the Asper School of Business at the U of M. From there, I obtained a bachelor of commerce degree in accounting and eventually started my career as a CPA at one of the big-four accounting firms in Winnipeg.
How did your career evolve?
After working in public practice for a few years, I joined a start-up in the cannabis industry in 2018. Reporting into the finance department, I wore many hats, learned a ton, and helped with some of the early successes of the company. I started as a manager under the VP of Finance and later became the Director of Risk and Compliance. I was able to develop a strong team to help execute on strategic initiatives in the highly regulated Canadian cannabis industry. After three years at the director level, I returned to public practice here at MNP.
Why MNP?
It ultimately came down to the leaders I met throughout the recruitment process, MNP’s reputation in Vancouver, and the growth I’ve seen within the firm over the past few years. Since I joined the team, I’ve heard other people’s experiences with the firm, and know I made the right decision.
What do you enjoy about your work?
I have a passion for helping business owners and new companies create value and expand their operations in a profitable manner. I really enjoy deciphering complex regulations, keeping up with industry changes, working with different stakeholders, and providing tailored business solutions. At MNP, I have an opportunity to work with a great team and younger companies made up of ambitious senior leaders that are emerging or going through changes within their industries, and that’s exciting.
What do you do when you’re not working?
Fostering connections with family and friends is very important to me. To be truly valuable at the office or at home, you need to keep doing things that make you happy. Not only will this help provide a more balanced life and fulfilling career, it will ensure that struggle doesn’t become the norm.
