Support to navigate the jurisdictional process
The Government of Canada co-developed Bill C-92, An Act Respecting First Nations, Inuit, and Métis children and families, with the support of Indigenous, provincial, and territorial partners. This Act enables Indigenous communities to create their own child and family services legislation in recognition of their inherent jurisdiction over the care of their children and families.
Our team assists First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples together with Indigenous Governing Bodies to navigate the jurisdictional process and achieve their goal of jurisdiction over child and family services. We also provide supports around the program planning and reporting required under Bill C-92.
Challenges we help you solve
Surplus funding allocation
You have a surplus within your child and family services funding and are struggling to identify what programs and services these surplus funds can be used to support.
Lack of capacity
You have many ideas for programs and services to support your community. However, there may be a lack of space to provide these programs or a lack of team capacity to seek funding for capital.
Navigating the jurisdiction process
You are interested in pursuing jurisdiction and need support to both help you get started and navigate the jurisdictional process.
Project planning
You received capacity funding to explore jurisdiction under the Act. However, the process has stalled, and you need support to plan out your next steps.
What we can do together
Review surplus funds requirements
Our team will review the financial statements and reporting requirements to understand the scope of the surplus and what needs to be addressed. We will then work with you to put together a plan that identifies a budget and responsibilities.
Perform a capital needs assessment
Our advisors can help prepare a capital needs assessment as the starting point to the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal Order 41 9CHRT-41). We will then create an application for funding to complete the feasibility study and provide project management supports throughout the process.
Support for the jurisdiction process
Our team has developed a framework to help you navigate the jurisdiction process. We will review previous funding applications and collect and incorporate all the work done to date into a work plan to help achieve your goals.
Planned approach
Our advisors can help you plan out your approach to the jurisdiction process, apply for funding, and provide our experience and insights throughout every step of the process on your journey towards jurisdiction.
