Do you have a GHG declaration that needs to be verified?
We are proud to participate in the greenhouse gas (GHG) sector. MNP has one of the most experienced teams in Canada at quantifying GHG emissions, identifying reduction measures, advising on GHG reduction projects, validating and verifying projects and GHG inventories, and identifying opportunities to participate in the carbon market. Our clients include small to medium-sized businesses, large companies, municipalities and all levels of government.
MNP is accredited by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) to ISO 14065 as a GHG validation and verification body.
Impartiality policy for GHG emissions validation/verification activities
As a premier professional services firm, MNP distinguishes itself by consistently delivering top-tier validation and verification of GHG emissions declarations across Canada (the “GHG Services”). MNP is dedicated to maintaining independence and impartiality in the provision of GHG Services, recognizing their critical role in ensuring objectivity.
The firm remains independent when providing GHG Services and refrains from offering other services that may compromise independence or impartiality. MNP actively manages conflicts of interest and requires that employees follow MNP policies and guidelines on independence and conflicts of interest.
When threats are identified, MNP applies the appropriate safeguards and techniques that uphold its independence and impartiality.
Information about the validation/verification process and use of statement
MNP’s validation and verification activities are primarily based on the globally recognized specifications and guidelines of the ISO 14064-3:2019 standard. As illustrated below, the validation or verification process consists of ten steps that begin the moment a request for proposal is received.
Steps 1 and 2 are primarily aimed at concluding an agreement with the entity requesting validation/verification services which includes the basic elements of the validation or verification (objectives, validation/verification criteria, period, etc.) and confirming that there is no conflict of interest between the two parties that could affect MNP’s impartiality. Planning mainly includes the selection of the members of the validation/verification team, a review of the documentation received and the creation of an evidence collection and validation/verification plan that will guide the validation/verification activities that will follow. Steps 4 to 6 include the core of the validation/verification activities including the review of the entity’s information system and the data used, the site visit or virtual meeting, the assessment of compliance based on the validation/verification criteria, the drafting of the validation/verification report, the independent review of the validation/verification activities and the issuance of the report including and opinion. MNP retains copyright ownership of the report and the audit opinion, but grants the entity an exclusive, non-transferable, royalty-free, worldwide license to publish or distribute the audit report and opinion in their entirety for its own purposes or for commercial or financial purposes.
The final steps of the process are to respond to the facts discovered following the issuance of an validation/verification report, manage complaints and appeals, and document the validation/verification activities that have taken place.
Commitment to impartiality
Aware of the intrinsic value of impartiality, MNP pays careful attention to assessing situations of actual or potential conflict of interest. These can cause numerous difficulties in the GHG validation or verification process, and undermine the credibility of the efforts made, particularly in a regulated carbon market.
In this context, MNP undertakes to:
- Base its statements of opinion objectively, without allowing itself to be influenced by the interests of stakeholders or any other external sources.
- Continuously develop the technical expertise and competence of its team of professionals in the policies, technologies, protocols and standards in force in the various regional, national and international GHG markets.
- Keep information obtained or created during the validation or verification of GHG statements secure and confidential.
- Only disclose confidential information when authorized to do so and in an appropriate manner.
- Integrate its commitment to impartiality into all relevant internal management processes, procedures, mechanisms and policies.
- All employees conducting any GHG audit work have an obligation to disclose any direct or indirect conflict of interest between their personal affairs and any GHG audit work the employee performs on behalf of MNP.
- Confidentiality agreements with each client to whom MNP provides validation/verification services are scrupulously respected.
- Relationships with clients are based on trust and openness to clarify certain aspects of the validation/verification process.
