Joël is a Tax Partner in MNP’s Waterloo office. Joel provides innovative tax and business advice to private corporations and their shareholders, with an emphasis on clients in the technology industry - including those in the information, communications, and electronics sectors.

Joël has nearly three decades of tax planning experience, gained through working on the tax and estate planning team at a large insurance company, in the tax group of a national accounting firm, and with the Canada Revenue Agency.  This breadth of tax expertise enables him to provide clients with income tax planning solutions for corporate structures, estate planning, corporate acquisitions and dispositions, and employee / shareholder remuneration.  He also has expertise in the taxation of life insurance, and tax planning strategies using insurance products.

Joël has been a frequent speaker for the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and spoken at tax seminars for Certified Management Accountants (CMA) Ontario and Federated Press. He spent seven years as a tutor for the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA) In-Depth Tax Course.

Joël earned an Honours degree in economics from Wilfrid Laurier University in 1993. He is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), qualifying as a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) in 1996. He is also a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP). Joël has completed the CICA In-depth Tax Course; and the Corporate Reorganization, International Tax and Advanced Tax Issues for Owner-Managers programs.
