Get to know Jessy Sra, CPA, CA, Partner

Jessy Sra planned to be a lawyer but something drew her to accounting, where she found that she loved working with clients in the professional services sector. We caught up with Jessy to learn more about her unique journey and what she loves about her work.

What makes you passionate about your career?

I probably started down this path because I enjoy “crunching the numbers.” However, as my career progressed so has my role. The things that get me most excited about work are problem solving, helping business owners reach their goals and mentoring our staff.

Did you always want to be an accountant?

No, my undergraduate degree is in arts. I wrote the LSAT and was set to apply to law schools. Then I spoke to a friend who had done the diploma in accounting with UBC’s Sauder School of Business. I reviewed the program and the rest, as they say, is history!

What about MNP’s Professionals Services intrigued you?

I started working in this area when I transferred to our Markham office. At first it was the group of people I enjoyed working with every day. As I got to know the unique way we approach these clients, I got hooked.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work life?

Doing anything outside with my two boys and partner. Kamloops is great because we ski at SunPeaks, hike the trails and mountain bike. Growing up in the lower mainland, my exposure to the great outdoors was limited. Even though my bones are more brittle and I’m less likely to take risks—and more likely to embarrass myself—pushing myself to go on these adventures brings out the kid in me.
