Get to Know Jason Kingshott
Jason joined MNP in September 2006 and is the firm’s National Energy Leader. With over two decades of experience, Jason is still incredibly fascinated by the people he gets to work with. We sat with him to learn more about him and his work at MNP.
What attracted you to the Energy field?
I’ve found the people I work with, both internally and on the client side, to be very intriguing. They are some of the main drivers of the Calgary economy, but they are also very down to earth, easy to interact with, and very entrepreneurial. I love experiencing that side of the work. It’s also fascinating to see a fantastic group of people within the niche who share similar core values and interests. On the other hand, being part of some of the technical advancements happening in the Energy sector is equally fulfilling.
What do you enjoy most about your role at MNP?
Not to be repetitive, but the biggest piece is the clients and the people. It's great to witness people on the internal and external side build up the energy sector. We've seen fantastic growth in both the sector and the firm and that has been really exciting. Being in a leadership role and actively participating in all of this has been great.
What advice would you give someone considering the same career path as you?
I think this is an excellent career path and now more than ever is a great time to join MNP. The growth we've seen has just been excellent. The growth we're continuing to see, and the ones we project with the opening of diverse service lines also offer more opportunities. We've strengthened our finance, consulting, tax, and digital service lines such that anyone who has an interest in these areas would find something appealing.
How do you envision your future at MNP?
MNP is very well positioned in the mid-market space, and I think there's still a ton of growth we can see within Canada and with additional service lines. The opportunities that exist are limitless. My goal within MNP is to grow the energy niche and see more service lines added and more client needs met.
What is the most rewarding or inspiring part of your workday?
It depends on the day. I love getting out and talking to clients and learning more about their business and what drives it. On the team side, I love the opportunity to mentor team members; I enjoy getting to know them and working with them on a day-to-day basis. It feels good to be back here supporting and driving the culture and helping to ensure that it grows.
What do you like to do when you’re not at work?
I'm quite outdoorsy, so I enjoy skiing, golfing, spending time at the lake, fishing, or just hanging out with the family at any of these places. MNP promotes a hybrid experience leaving staff with the flexibility to go out, take vacations, and engage in activities with family and friends. We work hard but we have enough support and flexibility to do other things.
