Get to Know Albert Aoude
When Albert Aoude, CPA, CA, CF, isn’t helping clients negotiate corporate transactions, you’ll find the MNP Director, Corporate Finance, in Montreal, cycling, running, or playing guitar. Read on to find out how Albert applies his high energy to his clients.
What attracted you to the field of corporate finance?
Corporate finance is an exciting field that allows you to be at the forefront of any business, with the ultimate purpose of maximizing value for shareholders and business owners. Every project is unique, and you are called upon to advise and support your clients on decisions such as business acquisition, divestiture, optimizing their capital structure and financing capital investments.
What’s also really rewarding, is the experience you acquire working with clients and companies operating in a wide range of industries, from manufacturing, food processing, software development, retail, distribution, construction, media and telecommunications.
What made you join the MNP team?
In 2013, after spending seven years at another firm, I decided to step away from the corporate finance field and go back into the corporate world. At that time, I thought I wouldn’t return to the professional services sector but that choice changed in 2019 when MNP reached out to me. After doing my due diligence on the firm, my decision to get back into an advisory position with MNP was not difficult. I wanted to be part of a growing team with a clear path to partnership.
I was also drawn by MNP’s entrepreneurial culture; despite being the fifth largest accounting firm in Canada, MNP maintains its small to medium sized business mindset – hard working, open to opportunity in a fun and enjoyable workplace The people I met then and the people I deal with now, on a daily basis, are very human, caring and treat everyone with respect, qualities that I highly value.
What do you find the most inspiring or rewarding during your workday?
I consider myself one of the lucky ones as I get to wear two hats. I represent our clients looking to acquire a business as I head the due diligence service line in Quebec. On the flip side, I get to play a key role in supporting entrepreneurs in every step of the sale of their business with the objective of maximizing value. What is also rewarding, is the ability to support our clients through the psychological ebbs and flows of selling their business.
The ability to wear two hats allows me to better understand both sides of a transaction, which I consider a tremendous advantage and one that our clients value greatly.
How do you enjoy life outside of work?
I am an avid guitar player and have been for almost 30 years. Music is important to me; it allows me to disconnect from the stress of the world. I also enjoy being physically active; cycling, running, working out – it helps me remain sane! For the past few years, I have taken part in the Ride to Conquer Canada from Montreal to Quebec, in memory of my mother. Originally from Lebanon, family and being close to family is an integral part of my life
