Synopsis
As part of EPCOR Water Canada’s Improvement Plan for Estimating, MNP was asked to support the Risk Management initiative. This initiative aimed to develop and implement a plan to improve the understanding of risk management. It also focused on ensuring appropriate consideration of risk to enhance cost estimating accuracy with consistent application across Water Canada. MNP delivered a Standardized Project Risk Register, updated Risk Process Maps, and a Consolidated Risk Management Framework for EPCOR Water Canada.
Challenge
EPCOR Water Canada developed an Improvement Plan for Estimating with several initiatives to develop more robust processes for planning, change, risk management, training, and asset management to support increased cost estimating accuracy. MNP was asked to develop a Standardized Risk Register, update Risk Process Maps within the organization and consolidate the improvements into a Consolidated Risk Management Framework to aid EPCOR Water Services in improving their understanding of risk management and its appropriate consideration to improve cost estimating accuracy.
Solution
MNP reviewed EPCOR Water Canada’s current risk process documentation and estimating process, keeping all elements of estimating accuracy in mind. Working with EPCOR’s Water Services team, MNP created a Common Risk and Mitigations Database and a Standardized Risk Register, as well as risk process maps and a risk management framework.
Result
EPCOR Water Canada now has the tools it needs to achieve its goal of improving estimating accuracy. These include a Risk Management Framework and Risk Register that can be referred to as needed.
