Wake the Giant Within You
Congratulations to the winners of the 2024 Wake the Giant Youth Art Contest.
We’re thrilled to showcase the incredible talent and creativity of emerging Indigenous artists through the 2024 Wake the Giant Youth Art Contest. This year’s winner and honourable mentions reflect the diverse voices, rich cultures, and creative connections of Indigenous youth.
Our winner: Harmony Fiddler
Take a moment to bask in the remarkable work of Harmony Fiddler from Sandy Lake First Nation.
Her woodland-style art, rich with vibrant colours and deep symbolism, tells stories that resonate with the traditions and spirit of her community. Harmony’s creations are more than just art — they are a powerful expression of Indigenous culture, connecting us to the land and the stories of Sandy Lake First Nation.
Honourable mention: Skylight Riopel
Experience the beauty and richness of this debut piece from Skylight Riopel, an urban student from Thunder Bay.
Skylight’s artwork wonderfully brings the Northern Lights to life, showcasing the vibrant colours and the profound connection her community shares with nature. Her striking artwork not only captures the beauty of the night sky, but also reflects the spirit and skill of Indigenous youth.
Honourable mention: Curtis Meekis
Immerse yourself in the vibrant work of Curtis Meekis from Keewaywin First Nation.
Curtis’ artwork captures the tranquil beauty of a lake near Mountain Road in Thunder Bay, Ontario, inspired by a photograph taken on a photography field trip with Dennis Franklin Cromarty High School.
