Sean Strang worked for a Big Four firm before joining MNP. Now, he serves small and mid-size clients, helping them develop their businesses, plan for the future, and exit when the time is right. We caught up with Sean to learn more about him and his approach to helping clients.
What is your role with MNP?
I am a Senior Manager working out of Vernon. My focus is on working with professionals, such as dentists, lawyers, physicians, optometrists, pharmacists, and veterinarians.
How would you characterize your approach to helping clients?
I start by getting to know them, their businesses, their goals and plans, and their needs. I find this helps me identify things that need to be considered when planning for the future. By talking to them and developing an in-depth understanding of their businesses, I’m also able to identify issues they may not even know they need help with.
What does it take to run a successful business?
In my experience, to run a successful business, you have to work to your strengths and surround yourself with people who have strengths that compliment yours. It is important to know what you are good at and what you aren’t, and to find people who are good at the things you aren’t. This ensures all aspects of the business are taken care of.
What have you learned about yourself during your professional journey?
I have learned that I really enjoy helping people. The most rewarding part of this job is seeing clients succeed and do well in their endeavours, and knowing that you have had a part in helping them on their journey. I have learned to listen to clients’ needs — and I mean really listen to what they are saying —and how to patiently let them come to their own conclusions before jumping in and adding my own insights.
