Aggregate deal value increased from $5.7 billion across 85 transactions in Q2 2021 to $5.9 billion across 75 transactions in Q3 2021.

The technology industry experienced a decrease in both transaction volume and transaction value from Q2 2021 to Q3 2021. Total transaction value decreased from $122 billion to $79 billion and transaction volume decreased from 181 deals to 151 deals.

Engineering and construction merger and acquisition (M&A) activity in Q3 2021 was approximately $1.1 billion in disclosed transaction value across 200 deals in Canada and the US. US transactions accounted for 186 of these deals, representing an increase of 37.8% from the previous quarter.

M&A activity in the North American agriculture industry has continued to rebound, with 116 total transactions in Q2 2021, the second highest total by volume in a quarter since Q3 2017, trailing only Q1 2021.

Engineering and construction merger and acquisition (M&A) activity in Q2 2021 exceeded $690 million in disclosed transaction value across 142 deals in Canada and the US. US transactions accounted for 135 of these deals, representing a decline of 8.8% from the previous quarter.

M&A activity in the North American dealership industry has returned to historical averages. 19 transactions have been disclosed in the first two quarters of 2021, which is on pace with the 43 transactions in 2020. However, the transaction value in 2021 will likely return to the 2018 and 2019 levels, noting a mega $2.8 billion transaction that drove the 2020 value up.

M&A activity in the North American food and beverage industry is robust with transaction values and volumes remaining at levels achieved prior the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Transaction volume slightly decreased from 222 deals in Q1 2021 to 207 deals in Q2 2021. Total transaction value in Q2 2021 remains healthy, however it fell from $11.6 billion in Q1 2021 to $9.2 billion in Q2 2021.

Healthcare merger and acquisition activity in the second quarter of 2021 exceeded $12.4 billion in disclosed transaction value across 645 deals in Canada and the US. The average deal size among disclosed transactions was $70.2 million, an increase from $57.5 million in the first quarter of 2021.
