Get to know him better with this Q&A.
What is your approach to networking?
My approach starts with two things. The first is networking through things I enjoy doing, and the second is focusing on the community around me. I take things that I really enjoy doing and I turn that into an opportunity to work as well. I’ll doing a fair amount of networking on golf courses or playing hockey. It doesn’t feel like work at all.
I’m also involved with the community in a couple of ways. I’ve been a long-time member at the Oakfield Golf and Country Club. I’ve been the treasurer and will be the vice president of the board next year. I’m also involved with the Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation here. I find the experiences are enjoyable, but also really rewarding too.
What specific areas do you focus on when working with clients?
My main focus is creating strategic tax plans that reflect the unique situations for different businesses. I have great relationships with clients in real estate and construction, professionals, and most recently, dealerships.
I work with business owners as they’re managing a major transaction like the purchase or sale of a business. Transactions can be complex, but there are unique opportunities for tax savings when done right. In the end, both sides can realize savings and start achieving their goals from the purchase or sale.
How do you add value to your relationships with clients?
I add value through my relationships with clients. Having strong, deep relationships allows us to have open conversations about complex or emotional decisions. When you have strong relationships, you can get a true and honest answer, and it’s great to see people start to take the steps to realize their dreams and goals.
The benefit of strong relationships comes through when talking about estate planning. It’s an uncomfortable thought and people often don’t think about their goals. Building trust over years allows us to help people walk through their options so they can determine their goals and develop plans to achieve them.
